About the Thompson Health Food Pantry
According to a regional study, one in four people experience food insecurity in some areas of the Finger Lakes. Patients at Thompson are asked a series of questions to gauge their need and those identified receive two-three days' worth of food along with simple recipe ideas, bowls and can openers, and information about other food resources in the area.
Food insecurity has become increasingly evident toal workers in recent years and now, these associates are working to ensure patients being discharged aren’t returning home to bare cupboards. In the past, patients were given lists of food pantries—but accessing these resources can be difficult after a hospital stay, due to transportation challenges and limited pantry hours.
Since the pantry started at Thompson, we’ve helped 51 families, and with your support, we know we can help even more!
